Eight teams were invited to compete at the World Cup. Six of those nations were full members of theInternational Cricket Council(ICC), while the other two Sri LankaandEast Africa were invited to fill the remaining two spots.South Africawas meant to be one of the teams in the tournament, but due to theapartheidlaws in the country, the team had to withdraw from competing until the1992 edition.[8]
