The hospitality industry is an increasingly vital sector of the Indianapolis economy. According to Visit Indy, 29.2 million visitors generate $5.6 billion annually, supporting 82,900 jobs.[205] Indianapolis has long been a sports tourism destination, but has more recently relied on conventions.[206] From 2010 to 2019, average annual attendance for conventions was 494,000, an increase of 26% from the previous decade.[207]
The Indiana Convention Center (ICC) and Lucas Oil Stadium are considered mega convention center facilities, with a combined 750,000 square feet (70,000 m2) of exhibition space.[208] ICC is connected to 12 hotels and 4,700 hotel rooms, the most of any U.S. convention center.[209] Resident conventions annually hosted in the city include FDIC International, National FFA Organization Conference, Gen Con, and Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show.[207]
