Since 1953, most of the faculties have been situated onSparrow Hills, in the southwest of Moscow. Themain buildingwas designed by architectLev Vladimirovich Rudnev. In the post-war era,Joseph Stalinorderedseven tiered neoclassic towersto be built around the city. It was built usingGulaglabour, as were many of Stalin's Great Construction Projects in Russia.[20]The MSU main building was thetallest building in Europeuntil 1990. The central tower is 240m tall, 36 stories high, and flanked by four wings of student and faculty accommodations.
