Alzheimer’s is a neurological disorder which slowly destroys the brain’s memory and thinking skills. Eventually, a person with Alzheimer’s disease is not even able to carry out the simplest tasks. Mostly, the disease begins to show its symptoms when a person is in their mid-60s. It is also the most common cause of dementia in older adults.
The disease is named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer who noticed changes in the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental illness. She was experiencing memory loss, language problems, and unpredictable behavior. After her death, Dr. Alzheimer examined her brain and found many abnormal clumps and tangled bundles of fibers. These signs are still considered some of the main features of this brain disorder.
